About This Project
The Our Health Our Lives Our Futures (OLHF) project was implemented by ZKS with the technical support of Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) and Simavi- Netherlands. The key donor of the project is the European Union. Women centre approach is the main strategy of the project. The project contributed to ensure women rights and empowerment in line with SRHR in the society.
PROJECT DURATION: August 2019 to December 2023
SOURCE of FUND: European Union through Simavi- Netherlands and Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS);
PROJECT AREA:
- 18 villages under 5 Unions of Khagrachhari Sadar and 12 villages under 5 Unions of Panchari Upazila (Total 30 villages/ Girls club);
- 9 High School under Khagachhari Sadar Upazila and 6 High Schools (Including 1 primary upgraded up to class eight) under Panchari Upazila (Total 15 schools);
TOTAL BUDGET OF THE PROJECT: 27,027,396.89
Total number of Project Participants:
- Direct project participants: 1200 Adolescent and youth girls (In between 10 to 25 years age group);
- Indirect project participants: 1200 mothers and 2400 fathers and brothers of girls club members;
Project Objectives
To promote gender equality and support the empowerment of adolescent girls and young women in CHT to live with dignity, make their own and informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) without violence, coercion and discrimination.
OOUTCOME OF THE PROJECT:
- OUTCOME 1: Local CSOs have strengthened their technical, methodological, financial and administrative capacity to effectively respond to the SRHR needs of young women and adolescent girls and foster their rights to live free from violence, coercion and discrimination;
- OUTCOME 2: Young women and adolescent girls from indigenous groups are empowered to make free and informed decisions about their SRHR (and are supported to do so), free of violence, coercion and discrimination;
ACHIEVEMENTS:
- As a locally based NGO in the CHT, ZKS have increased capacity (Thematic, technical and financial) to respond to women’s needs and priorities in line with Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and Gender Based Violence (GBV);
- 30 Girls club are run regularly with 30 Female Mentors and planned activities;
- 1200 young women and girls are supported and empowered to define their priorities on SRHR and safety;
- 1200 mothers and women are engaged to support young women and girls needs and priorities;
- 2400 men and boys are engaged to support young women and girls needs and priorities;
- Community leaders, health service providers and schools are engaged to support young women and girls safety and sexual and reproductive health and rights;
- District, Upazila and UP authorities and stakeholders are engaged to support young women and girls’ safety and SRHR;
- 3 High Schools are provided support to established MHM friendly separate toilet for girls through lobby activities;
