One Million Solar for One Million Job

Goal of the Project:

To engage communities and households in a nationwide solarisation venture, aiming to draw the government’s attention to developing policies that foster a greener economy while creating new job opportunities.

Broader Objective:

To make a significant contribution to Bangladesh’s ongoing green transition movement through activating Local Government Institutions, community leaders, socio-cultural organisations, policymakers and local financial institutions.

Specific Objectives:

  1. Local Government Institutions, especially Union Parishad and Municipalities, are engaged with the Campaign and have shown their commitment to extending support to the communities in realising the goal.
  2. Misconceptions and myths surrounding Solar Power are largely cleared and demystified, paving the way for new perspectives and a high potential for advancing the green agenda.
  3. Policymakers are sensitised and made an explicit commitment to support the grassroots solarising initiative through required policies, programs and finances.
  4. Respective companies, domestic financial institutions, Development partners (DPs), and Multilateral Development Banks are effectively communicated with, aiming to secure their finances for the initiative.

Targeted Participants:

Direct Participants-

  1. Elected representatives of the Union Parishad and Pourashava
  2. Local Youth Clubs
  3. Community Leaders
  4. Teachers
  5. Imams and/or Bhante, Priests
  6. Local Bankers (Bank managers)
  7. Solar Installers/Service Providers
  8. Women Representatives

At least 30% of the participants will be women

Indirect Participants-

Energy experts, civil society groups, RE companies, financial institutions, development partners, MDBs, policymakers and partner organisations at regional and national levels.

Major Activities:

1.2 Community Consultation with the participation of Local Leaders, Influencers, Clubs, Social Institutions and community members

1.3 Orientation of LGI, Local Leaders and other Stakeholders on Climate-Energy Nexus focusing on Rooftop Solar

1.4 Community Mobilisation in cooperation with FED members, urging the local governments to support Rooftop Solar

2.1 Dialogue meeting with LGI representatives and other local Stakeholders

2.2 Publication of a poster on Rooftop Solar identifying challenges and demanding adequate measures

2.3 Formation and facilitation meetings of the 10 FED committees in the selected communities
